About Me
Hi, I'm Kyrie at Surrey Counselling
I have always been deeply interested in how our life experiences shape us—impacting our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours. This curiosity led me to pursue a Psychology degree at the University of Surrey, followed by a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, having recognised the profound effect that early life experiences can have on our adult lives, including (but not limited to) navigating neurodiversity issues.
However, my journey didn’t always follow this path. For over two decades, I worked in a fast-paced marketing career—a role I truly enjoyed. It was in this environment that I realized the aspects of my job I found most rewarding were helping the people I worked with overcome personal barriers that were holding them back.
Now, as a therapeutic counsellor, I work with adults who have endured significant trauma, often leading to challenges like anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and addictions; and children who are navigating the world whilst discovering who they are in it. I have helped clients navigate through difficult experiences such as stress, shame, guilt, self-harm, suicidal ideation, sexual trauma, low self-worth, grief, and loss.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), meaning I adhere to their Code of Ethics to ensure the highest standards of care. You can learn more about these ethical guidelines here.
Areas of specialism
Whilst I welcome clients from all backgrounds and with a range of issues my experience to date has meant that there are certain areas where I have more therapeutic experience than others. These are:

Corporate Stress
I worked in the corporate world, in a fast paced and high stress environment, for over 20 years. I understand the pressures that this can lead to and how this takes it toll on people both mentally and physically.

Women and girls
People who identify, or who were assigned at birth, as women and girls – much of my experience to date has been working in schools with girls, and in a women’s service. This means that I have a lot of experience of working with issues such as self-esteem, body image, neurodiversity in girls, fertility issues, child loss and separation, sexuality and gender confusion, and sexual trauma. Many of these issues are also relevant to males, and I welcome clients from every gender and sexuality; so please do reach out if you think I can help you.

Children and Young People
Children and young people therapy – I have specific training in working with children and young people. This type of therapy can often differ from adult focussed therapy and can sometimes, but not always, be more play focussed. Playing is a great way to help children and young people process some of the things they find difficult to articulate. If you think this might be helpful for you / your child then please do contact me.

Loss
I have a lot of experience in working with loss, and in particular relating to child or pregnancy loss. This type of loss can come with lots of very intense and confusing feelings, and I’m here if you would like some help to process this.

Trauma
I have worked with many clients who have experienced significant trauma. This includes sexual abuse, childhood sexual abuse, attachment trauma, domestic violence, witnessing violence, rape, neglect, or the impact of drugs, alcohol or other addictions. These experiences have a huge impact on us, both emotionally and physically and it can often feel scary and overwhelming to talk about. I am here, alongside you, to help you process your experiences in a safe and contained way.
